I have had lots of fun times in the Castro this past year, hanging out with my buddy Cole Streets, good meals, and of course walking around butt naked for a few hours, but so far my favorite experience was going to see the movie MILK with my best friend Casey Williams. Seeing that movie in the Castro Theater was so moving. One of the reasons I love San Francisco so much is because open mindedness and acceptance most residents have towards alternative lifestyles, its a huge difference from where I come from in Mississippi.
Its hard for me to imagine that at one point it was not safe to be gay even in the Castro, people within the gay community were being arrested, harassed and even attacked. Now here we are in 2012 and we have a sitting US president publicly supporting Gay marriage. WOW, it just shows how much progress can be made with the effort of some amazing people. So , if you have not seen Milk I hope you will make it a point to do so, it makes you realize we all have the ability to do something to promote acceptance and tolerance even if its just by being a good person. Find something that’s important to you, a charity an organization and support it either with time or if possible a donation.
Good things happen when people are proactive rather than reactive. Especially us younger gay guys we don’t have to fit the stereotype that ALL we care about are parties, the newest high-tops, and the newest hot boy we meet. All those things are fun but do something in addition to them. The Live Out Loud organization is certainly a good one to get behind if you don’t already have one in mind.
Just some food for thought.
I hope all of you enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend!

While what you say is certainly true, it’s important to remember that people within the gay community continue to be arrested, harassed and even attacked on an almost-daily basis. While much progress has been made, there are still those who lack compassion and reason.

Thanks Marc, I haven’t watched that movie yet but your right and that’s how I live my life. Alot of people say wow your gay? I didn’t realize but I stand up for myself even when I hear the word faggot, I like it as a joke but to be mean is just ignorant. I have a a few charities I but a dollar or two in every pay check, or when I’m asked I go for it to, I think the men ones, not just the gay ones but all us, are important to me. As for the gay thing again I’m really proud of that, I met loads of us from different ages from dates to just friends hangout out and its way different, us young ones are about sex mostly but there is a some of us (such as me, most of the time) that do like to branch out from that stereotype and the older ones have fought for us just like the armies have done for, its our time in our generation to take our stands and I’m proud I am one of them that helps those ones that help out, I’m a Canadian Gay man and I’m proud of it, I’m not ashamed for the men in the past gave me the strength to do so.
