Workplace Dating 101
Today’s question is from a viewer who is considering dating a co-worker even though it violates company policy. This is a tricky question to answer because there are variables that differ from situation to situation.
Here are some general tips-
1) Make sure you understand exactly what your companies policy prohibits. It may only apply if one of you is in a management position and the other a subordinate, or it may apply if you are on opposite sides of the “checks and balances” for example someone in accounting dating a sales person could be a conflict of interest. If you feel there is a grey area check with your H.R. department.
2) Really stop and think if this relationship would be worth risking your career over. Most would not be.
3) If you answered yes to the above question, talk to your new found sweetheart and find out if one of you would be willing to leave your current job to make the relationship work.
4) Nothing stays a secret long , if you move forward with dating the person and it does violate company policy make sure you have a contingency plan … meaning another job lined up!
