Unionizing is not about striking, it’s about collective bargaining. The other reason unions are important is due to the massive size corporations have become and there is no way for an individual to walk up to management and request job changes and equitable pay. One is tossed aside and either fired or moved into a position that is career ending. I know from personal experience. Had there been a union I could have used those channels to explain my job duties and the changes the corporation pushed on me and at that point the union sits down and works with management to equalize the work environment. I haven’t even addressed the ridiculous demands so many people have to endure because unions have lost so much arm flexing due to Americans becoming terrified of losing there jobs. It’s a shame because corporations are sitting on billions of dollars of cash because there is no more equitable pay for work. If it wasn’t for unions we’d all be working 14 hours days 7 days a week, literally. Unions brought forward the 8 hour per day 5 day per week work schedule. So much has been lost because unions are deemed evil. Check the bank accounts of corporations and you will be amazed at the amount of cash they are sitting on top of.
There is no collective bargaining if the union does not have the power to strike. As an investor in over 40 companies I am glad that they have hefty amounts of cash and assets. I wouldn’t want to invest in a company that didn’t have a healthy cash cushion. Nothing wrong with retained earnings! Unions have there place but when they become too powerful they can cripple an industry . Looks at the American Auto Industry before the restructuring.

I’m not disagreeing, just stating that the primary reason for unionization is collective bargaining, not striking. Strikes are governed by a laundry list of laws. Unions can’t strike because they want to. At the same time management has a tool in their tool chest that most people don’t know about when it comes to unions. Management Lockout, which doesn’t have the same laundry list of laws that union striking has. Unions have their place in life. You indicate the auto industry “before the restructuring”. The unions are still in place after the restructuring and all 3 auto makers are reaping record profits over the last several years. In fact Ford never took any handouts from the government and has one of the strongest unions in America. No arguments or disagreements…but unions do have their place and they have provided everyone union and non-union employees a lot of what we have today, meaning a reasonable work week and benefits beyond a paycheck, including over-time. The porn industry is ripe with young new faces so a union would collapse within months of being formed. Kinda silly if you think about a union of porn workers. Can you see it 10-20 years from now…union of porn workers as they get out of their easy chairs and walkers to give someone a hand job because their arthritis is to painful to get on ones knees…HA !!!

It will never happen….As you indicated, you need strength in numbers… too many people are available to work at any price….
