My take on one of the hottest topics in the industry right now. Keep in mind this is my personal opinion about studios producing the content in a controlled setting not what people choose to do in their personal lives.

Thank you Marc. I appreciate your openness. I have my opinion on the issue of barebacking and it tends go against most of the gay narrative, so I never even raise the issue with anyone at the risk of getting a negative response. I’m sure you know that peoples’ reactions can be extreme, otherwise you wouldn’t feel the need to remind people that’s that your personal opinion.
Another thing, I love love love your hair right now. This is the right length for you. You’re just overall so gorgeous and charming.
marc dylan says
Hey Joe, thanks for the comment. I think its also important to differentiate between barebacking on film in a very controlled setting with testing vs. what goes on in someone’s personal life where the risk can not be mitigated as much. People tend to have very strong opinions on issues such as these and argue them based on an emotional basis rather than looking at each individual situation and making a pragmatic rational argument based on that situation.

Wow… Well, my respect for you has just gone through the roof.
Congratulations on this post.

Hey Guy, thank you ! Appreciate the kind words.

Nice discussion on this topic Marc! I only differ on a few points. I think it is irresponisble of the barebacking companies to make bb porn, because many of the younger folks don’t realize how bad being HIV+ or having full blown AIDS is. They think it can be treated with a pill, but they are very, very wrong. So, they will want to have the hotter and unsafe sex just as in their porn. The bb companies MUST own this outcome of their product. Also, when one is young, one has the “That will never happen to me” way of thinking that leads to risk taking.
And yet, I feel that there is a place for BB porn since it is done by so many consenting adults in society, both HIV+ and HIV-, and is legal.
However, I do think that the making of it is unsafe for workers and should be regulated throughout the US. But then where will BB porn be made? Thailand?
It certainly is an interesting issue for sure!
Marc Dylan says
Hey Sue, very good points. We disagree slightly but reasonable minds can be of varying opinions 🙂 . I don’t think people base their sexual behavior on porn any more than people base their everyday behavior on mainstream entertainment . I think the percentage of people who are influenced to a significant degree by entertainment is fairly small. I also think people are very aware of the risk of STDs , even young people. I very much agree with you that the perception of HIV has changed , I have actually heard people say “Oh you just take a pill everyday”. Well its far more manageable these days its by no means the common cold .
As far as the companies taking responsibility , I think some are attempting to simply portray sex in its most natural form and others are advocating barebacking as a lifestyle with no regard for health concerns. So, I think there is a big difference between those two view points.
I agree with you that when a studio decides to film bareback porn their should be a very strict testing protocol that has to be followed. I think their should be an industry wide standard for testing . While I certainly think the studios have every right to produce the content they feel will be most remunerative the first responsibility must be to keep the models healthy.
I think people focus this argument entirely too much on the studios themselves. Business of all kinds reflect the preference of the consumer. The people who are adamant about trashing the studios should direct that criticism towards society.
Thanks for the comment Sue 🙂

Another great blog Marc, I believe most people in porn are consenting adults and are well educated nowadays to make their own informed decision to do BB or not. Only hope laws don’t change and it’s made illegal as this would push the making of BB porn under ground where performers and studios may not be regulated and tested. Keep up the great work sexy man , keep the blogs coming as always enjoyable and enjoy listening to that sexy voice of yours.xx
Marc Dylan says
Hey Paul. I do think their should be standardized guidelines as far as the testing procedures to make sure models are safe. I do think government has the right to ensure safe workplaces even in porn, but I don’t think they have the right to decide weather or not its legal to have bareback sex in porn . Thanks for taking the time to comment

Very well reasoned viewpoint. It’s every sexually active person, male or female to take responsibility over the health. As you indicated the market dictates what the Buying public wishes to see. I enjoy both. I remember seeing your first videos. You were so young and eager to show your passion and joy of your body and wanting to let others participate by sharing this. That is why I have enjoyed you as an adult entertainer. You enjoy the passion and joy of gay sex and continue to promote the industry in positive tones…thanks Marc hope to meet you some day

A well-reasoned and modestly-stated opinion. Thanks for sharing it.
The one point I wish you would have fleshed out more is the distinction between producing it because it’s more natural and happens in reality versus producing it because of an “anti-condom” or “anti-safe sex” philosophy. Like you, I’m no angel here and have watched it all. But I sometimes have some guilt about the latter category — if some kid/guy becomes poz because their opinion/behavior was influenced by such content, well, I don’t know how I feel about that.
A complicated topic, indeed.
Thanks.

Marc,
Good evening or afternoon (not sure when you’ll be reading this)
I am not sure if you’ve talked about this topic, but do you think of doing a personal blog that has so many topics around porn and how it may impact your work and/or personal life?
I thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, experiences & addressing issues that yourself, other adult models and general public experience.
Best wishes,
Chris

Hi Marc, The holiday did you good. You look fantastic. Love the new hair style. I really believe you put together a well balanced argument and I like your honesty about ‘never saying never’ against doing bb. I am well impressed. Fantastic blog.

marc dylan says
Hey Peter, thanks for taking the time to visit the site and thanks for the nice comment. The reason I say never say never is simple , what if I have a BF at the time and we wanted to film together. There are a couple scenarios where I could see myself doing it. I would still say there is a greater chance that it will not happen.

If I could as in another POV….
If you look back at our history you will find that have Gay men have indeed been influenced by erotica/porn. As an example…. Do you know where harnesses came from? Early in Tom of Finland’s drawing career he was very restricted on what he could draw based on obscenity laws. So he couldn’t draw two men having sex. But if this was a drawing of historical depiction, he could get around the censors. So he would draw men in harnesses on as gladiators. Gay men saw this, and were turned on by this…. Monkey see monkey do… And now you have harnesses a staple in a basic leather wardrobe.
How about a Muir cap or also known as Masters cap… Tom of Finland saw the movie The Wild Ones, and he took the cap that Marlon Brando wore in the movie and made it into leather in his drawings. Monkey see monkey do… Gay men again tried to emulate what they see in Tom of Finland drawings… And you have the hat you see on many gay leathermen.
Back when Dawson’s 20 Load Weekend was released, you suddenly saw ads on line from guys looking to emulate this movie. Very often I am approached by men looking to get in various Leather/BDSM things because… They saw it in a video. Gay men do try and mimic what they see in erotica/porn.
If you asked many men why they get into various sexual things that could be perceived as risky, they have all said it was because it had an element of danger. Danger can release an endorphin that can heighten a sexual high. I do think that gay men are interested in barebaking because it does have this danger element.
But on a last note… When you look at the behavior of gay male sex in pre-HIV/AIDS times. If you caught “something” you just went to the clinic and got a shot in the ass, and you were fine. They had no idea of what was spreading around. Out of nowhere came HIV/AIDS and gay men were dying in droves. Now you could go and get tested for HIV/AIDS and be clear of that virus. But what if something else has along like HIV/AIDS? It happened before, who is to say it can’t happen again? HPV was discovered in 1956. Hepatitis C was discovered in 1989. Something new could come along.

Morning Marc,
An interesting topic with a well balanced argument. Love your blogs. However, as an avid “cruiser” I was more interested to hear about your cruise. My partner and I were bitten by the cruise bug nine years ago and have been on a total of six now, all to the Mediterranean and Scandanavia / Russia. Glad to hear that your cruise worked out OK – here’s hoping another one is in your future!

Sorry, technical error.
Q2; When do you find the time to get to know yourself..?
Ben says
Hi Marc. One quick question re: upcoming scene between Trenton Ducati and Blue Bailey. Since Blue is openly open about his status which is +, what message do you think that is being sent out to fans and audiences when Trenton who never disclosed his status has a scene with Blue. Is it “It is OK to have unprotected sex with + ones.” or Trenton also already has + status, so he can do whatever now.? Don’t get me wrong – I’m a bb porn fan, I love it. I manage to stay healthy as I practice safe sex in my personal life. However these bb scene parings, to me, just sends wrong message to people especially when you know that your (scene) partner is +, it’s very important to use condom.
Marc Dylan says
Hey there, I think people should realize that Trenton made an informed decision knowing the exact details of the situation. I don’t think the majority of people are influenced by what they see in entertainment either mainstream or adult. There will always be a small percentage who may be influenced but I don’t believe in making decisions based on what a tiny fraction of people may do. I think this scene was filmed in a controlled responsible manner with both participants aware of the others status and they made an informed decision.

Omg you are so attractive abd i totally agree with you fully and I agree that there is a thin line between it all but some people don’t see it the way we do so good job
